Kenan-Flagler Correspondent Inside Professional Bootcamps
Kenan-Flagler Correspondent: Inside Professional Bootcamps by: Campus Correspondent, Michael Walker (Kenan-Flagler) on March 12, 2018 | 0 Comments Comments 196 Views March 12, 2018One of the greatest strengths of Kenan-Flagler, or any other prestigious business school, is the abundance of opportunities for professional development and networking outside of the classroom. I was recently fortunate to attend one of Kenan-Flaglerââ¬â¢s more prominent events, the Digital Marketing Bootcamp. The Digital Marketing Bootcamp provided a unique moment of reflection for me, as it is one of the few events in which I participated in both this year and last year as a wide-eyed freshman. The benefit of hindsight allowed me to recognize how much I have grown in the past year and during my brief time spent in Kenan-Flagler. HOW I INCREASED MY CONFIDENCE FOR NETWORKING EVENTSAs a freshman I approached the event nervously with my only preparation being a quick phone call with my older sister. I felt much more confident heading into the bootcamp this year thanks to now having experience with several similar events under my belt. In addition to these experiences, my increased confidence was also a result of training received both in and out of the classroom at Kenan-Flagler. Kenan-Flaglerââ¬â¢s Investment Banking Bootcamp, a collection of training sessions organized by upperclassman with the intention of better preparing younger students for the rigorous IB recruitment process, has a heavy emphasis on networking. I was able to take knowledge obtained from the IB Bootcamp and combine it with discussions from my Careers in Business course in order to understand how to take full advantage of the networking sessions that are abundant here at Kenan-Flagler. Attending the Digital Marketing Bootcamp has been invaluable in both of my experiences. During my freshman year I was able to develop a relationship with one recruiter which eventually developed into a vital mentorship. Thi s year I was able to talk with employees at one of the companies I am most interested in and gain insight into the interview process that I would face just days later.REVIEWS FROM OTHER STUDENTSOther students found different value in the bootcamp.à ââ¬Å"It was great getting insight on digital marketing from people who do it for a living, sophomore Trey Sullivan told me.à Learning what tactics different companies use to target their respective markets wasà fascinating and educational.â⬠Fellow sophomore Matthew Harding enjoyed a differentà aspect of the bootcamp. ââ¬Å"I appreciated the fact that many of the companyà representatives were in the early stages of their careers, he said. I felt this afforded me the opportunityà to learn not only from their expertise in the digital marketing field, but also from theirà experiences in transitioning from a student to professional.â⬠DONT MISS: PQU CAMPUS CORRESPONDENT: MICHAEL WALKERà andà KENAN-FLAGLER CORRESP ONDENT: TOP NOTCH FACILITIES AND PRESS-WORTHY FACULTY Page 1 of 11
