I was recently fortunate to attend one of Kenan-Flagler’s more prominent events, the Digital Marketing Bootcamp. The Digital Marketing Bootcamp provided a unique moment of reflection for me, as it is one of the few events in which I participated in both this year and last year as a wide-eyed freshman. The benefit of hindsight allowed me to recognize how much I have grown in the past year and during my brief time spent in Kenan-Flagler. HOW I INCREASED MY CONFIDENCE FOR NETWORKING EVENTSAs a freshman I approached the event nervously with my only preparation being a quick phone call with my older sister. I felt much more confident heading into the bootcamp this year thanks to now having experience with several similar events under my belt. In addition to these experiences, my increased confidence was also a result of training received both in and out of the classroom at Kenan-Flagler. Kenan-Flagler’s Investment Banking Bootcamp, a collection of training sessions organized by upperclassman with the intention of better preparing younger students for the rigorous IB recruitment process, has a heavy emphasis on networking. I was able to take knowledge obtained from the IB Bootcamp and combine it with discussions from my Careers in Business course in order to understand how to take full advantage of the networking sessions that are abundant here at Kenan-Flagler. Attending the Digital Marketing Bootcamp has been invaluable in both of my experiences. During my freshman year I was able to develop a relationship with one recruiter which eventually developed into a vital mentorship.
